JM Calma's stellar season part of him getting ready for the pros, shares San Sebastian coach

In his last playing year, San Sebastian College-Recoletos big man JM Calma is ready to give his all.

Calma has been nothing short of dominant in the ongoing NCAA Season 97 men's basketball tournament. He is averaging 14.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 0.8 blocks through five games.

The 6-foot-6 bruiser's best game so far this season came in the Stags' 83-71 escape of Lyceum of the Philippines University that improved their card to 2-3, where he notched a career-high 23-point output.

According to San Sebastian head coach Egay Macaraya, this is Calma's way of improving his credentials as he looks to throw his name into the PBA Rookie Draft this year.

"This will be his last year so kailangan niya talaga na mag-step up and he wants to play in the semifinals. Ito 'yung ginagawa niyang motivation for his drafting," Macaraya said.

"I think he's doing everything he can para madala 'yung Baste."

Macaraya asserted that the talented big man isn't just about the skills.

"When we talk about JM Calma, attitude-wise, character-wise, nandon na talaga sa kanya 'yon," the tactician said.

"He was playing for five years sa akin so I know my confidence in him, I know kung paano ko siya gagamitin and he's been responding."
