San Beda's James Kwekuteye weighing options on whether to join PBA Draft after NCAA season

Is the PBA the next destination for San Beda's James Kwekuteye after the ongoing NCAA Season 97?

The San Beda University star shooting guard revealed to GMA News Online that while he has two years of eligibility left for the Red Lions, he's considering throwing his name in the pro league's Season 47 Rookie Draft slated for May 15.

"Right now, I could go to the draft after this [season] if I want to. I'm gonna weigh my options. I'm gonna see first," Kwekuteye said.

The 23-year-old cager, though, said it is more likely that he will stay with the Red Lions' den.

But should he decide to move up to the pro ranks, Kwekuteye could be a great prospect for teams to look at.

The 6-foot-2 baller is currently averaging 14.1 points in seven games, the most on his team, to go along with 5.3 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 1.1 assists as San Beda sits in second place with a 6-1 card.

Still, Kwekuteye said he's not putting pressure on his shoulders as the job is far from done as far as this collegiate season is concerned.

"I'm just worrying about right now, which is the NCAA. I'm not 100-percent sure if I'm going to enter the draft," he said. "I'm just taking it day by day. I'm not putting much pressure on myself."

San Beda head coach Boyet Fernandez, though, said he will support Kwekuteye all the way if he indeed chose to forgo his years left for San Beda and go straight to the pros.

"We know that he's looking at that but as what he's been saying, I know he's concentrating first with San Beda. He's not really putting pressure on himself to be in the draft," Fernandez said.

"But as I've said, if he's decided to go to the draft, then we will support him. It's really his decision, it's not mine. I always give that decision to them. We will just advise but at the end of the day, it's theirs."

The deadline for the submission of applications for aspiring PBA players is set on May 2.
