Rookie Perpetual coach Myk Saguiguit happy to steer his alma mater to NCAA Final Four

In his first year as the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA head coach, Myk Saguiguit  has already led the team to the Final Four stage.

The Altas on Wednesday formally completed the semifinal cast after booting out host De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde to join other contenders like Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Mapua University, and San Beda University.

According to Saguiguit, it is actually a dream of his to lead his alma mater to the top.

"Masayang masaya kasi alam mo naman kaya ako pumunta sa Perpetual kasi gusto ko manalo ng laro eh," Saguiguit said after their 76-64 win over the Blazers.

"Gusto ko makilala yung alma mater ko, kahit in a small way. Masaya manalo sa Perpetual, every time na umuuwi kami [parang] laging fiesta. Masaya ang mga tao du'n kapag nanalo."

Saguiguit, who played for the team in early 2000s, was named the new head coach late in 2020, replacing Frankie Lim at the helm.

But prior to that, Saguiguit had already been calling the shots for the school's junior basketball program, from where the likes of his current players in Joey Barcuma and Jielo Razon hailed.
