The Colegio de San Juan de Letran on Thursday confirmed that NCAA Season 97 Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year Rhenz Abando is parting ways with the Knights' basketball team.
Earlier, Korean Basketball League team Anyang KGC announced that they have signed Abando for the upcoming season of the league.
In a statement, Letran said they are grateful to Abando for being a part of the Knights' championship run in the past season.
"As always, Letran is most grateful to Mr. Abando for playing well for the team, for winning both the Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards, for helping us keep the senior basketball championship in the 97th season of the National Collegiate Athletic Association," the school said.
"We remain committed to our vocation of forming our students and athletes according to the ideals of Deus, Patria, Letran which we have confidently bequeathed to Mr. Abando. Once a Letranite, always a Letranite," it added.
The school said it will continue with the team's preparation for the upcoming NCAA season.
Abando will join SJ Belangel, RJ Abarrientos, Justin Gutang, Will Navarro, and Ethan Alvano in the Korean league.
