After taking care of their first assignment in the NCAA Season 98, University of Perpetual Help System DALTA head coach Myk Saguiguit can now heave a sigh of relief and even throw a punch line.
The veteran mentor was quick to tease one of his rising guards, Joey Barcuma, who poured in a career-high outing against Jose Rizal University to begin his sophomore year.
Barcuma, according to Saguiguit, was fielded to help on the defense while other veterans like Jielo Razon, Kim Aurin, and Jef Egan were assigned to take charge on offense.
But the 5-foot-6 guard was firing on all cylinders with 22 points on 10-of-11 from the field alongside four steals, and one assist to lead an 84-60 victory.
"Si Barcuma, medyo mayabang kanina eh," said Saguiguit in the post-game interview.
I'm gonna be forever grateful sa dalawang player na 'to (Barcuma and Razon)."
"Talagang 'pag sinabing basketball, tatrabahuhin nila."
For Barcuma's part, he said he didn't expect to churn out a 22-point outing, especially with a veteran-laden roster.
