Kurt Reyson, Letran offer overtime win to late 'Fr. Raffy'

Back-to-back defending champion Colegio de San Juan de Letran had more than one motivation in its overtime victory against Jose Rizal University to jumpstart their bid for a three-peat crown.

According to Kurt Reyson, who powered the Knights to a 101-97 win, they offered the win to the late Rev. Fr. Rafael Quejada, O.P., who passed away on September 12.

Quejada served the Dominican school as Chaplain of the elementary and junior high school department while he was also a member of the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Corporacion.

"Sa isip ko, nagdadasal kami," Reyson recalled the moment he fired a triple that tie the game at 89 and send it to an extra period.

"Namatayan kami ng Fr. Raffy. Pumunta kami doon kanina. Sana makuha namin yung panalo dahil para sa kanya itong panalo. Nagulat na lang ako na nakuha ko yung bola. Di na ako nagdalawang isip, shinoot ko yung bola. Nabiyayaan."

"Nashoot naman."

The third-year guard finished with a career-high 31 points that went alongside five rebounds, five assists, and two steals as Letran opened their NCAA Season 98 campaign.
