Migs Oczon's steady, impressive outings for Benilde not a surprise, says deputy coach

For De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde assistant coach Paolo Layug, Migs Oczon's consistent showing for the Blazers so far in the NCAA Season 98 does not come as any kind of surprise.

Just two games into the NCAA, the transferee out of National University has already been a solid force for the Taft side.

In their first game, he unleashed 13 points, four assists, and two steals in an 86-69 win over Lyceum of the Philippines University. In this one, he exploded for 25 markers, highlighted by four triples, four rebounds, three dimes, and two steals against San Sebastian College-Recoletos on Friday.

But these numbers didn't shock the deputy coach.

"I'm not surprised at all. He is one of the hardest working players in our team, he wakes up everyday, gets 100 shots everyday. And what he did today... he puts in the work, he earns his minutes out there, and he makes shots," Layug said.

For Oczon, it's just a matter of playing his best for the school as they eye winning the title. He also shrugged off early talks of Rookie of the Year award, stressing that copping the championship remains their top priority.

"Siguro 'yung confidence ko lang 'yung same, andon naman 'yung trust ng coaches sa akin, 'yung trust ng teammates, siguro let it fly, 'yun lang suguro 'yung mindset ko," Oczon said.

"Actually wala naman 'yun sa mind ko, I just wanna play my best for the team and ang main goal naman namin is 'yung championship. Kumbaga if I get the Rookie of the Year, then bonus. If not, okay lang naman, as long as makuha namin 'yung championship.
