Colegio de San Juan de Letran head coach Bonnie Tan said that their struggle to execute in the fourth quarter played a huge factor in their stunning 72-69 loss to Arellano University on Sunday in the NCAA Season 98.
"Nangyari ay sa fourth quarter, 'yun 'yung crucial eh pero na-outscore kami. Hindi namin na-execute 'yung game namin," Tan told GMA News Online on the heels of the loss.
The Knights, who entered the payoff period leading by nine points, were outscored by the Chiefs, 25-13, as they saw an end to a 14-game wining streak that dated back to the NCAA Season 95 Finals.
Despite their struggles, they still had a chance to tie the game and force overtime near the end, with Arellano only holding a three-point lead.
Unfortunately for Letran, Kurt Reyson - the hero of their 101-97 comeback win over JRU in their first game - was unable to sink his last-gasp triple.
Tan shared that the last shot was drawn up for shooters like Fran Yu and Reyson, though they just could not get the shot to fall.
"Fran Yu then Kurt Reyson then nagpasok kami ng big men who can take the three kaso hindi pumasok," Tan recalled.
Asked what the team still lacks as they eye to bounce back on Friday against De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, Tan said they still have a lot to work on.
"Marami pa. Marami kaming kulang."
