Lyceum of the Philippines University leaned on to JM Bravo and its defense to fend off San Sebastian College-Recoletos in overtime, 82-79, in the NCAA Season 98 on Sunday.
Bravo scored seven of his team's nine points in the extra period, including a clutch go-ahead three-pointer in the final minute, to tow the Pirates to the win.
He finished with 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field and 2-for-2 from three-point range to lead LPU.
Mclaude Guadaña, meanwhile, also finished with 14 markers, tying Bravo for game-high honors, while Ato Barba added 11.
Lyceum recovered from a previous loss to improve to 6-2 while San Sebastian fell to its fourth defeat in a row to drop to 2-5.
Bravo put matters into his own hands in the extra period, scoring four straight points to bring the Pirates to a 77-75 lead.
He then knocked down a huge bomb to give Lyceum an 80-79 lead with 58.2 ticks left after Alex Desoyo completed two of his three freebies.
Enoch Valdez split his charities as Lyceum held on to make sure there won’t be back-to-back losses for them.
Earlier, a quick 7-0 run unleashed by the Stags saw their lead balloon to 73-67 with veterans Kenneth Villapando, Rommel Calahat, and Jessie Sumoda powering their run with 2:35 left in regulation.
A crucial block from Villapando on Barba proved pivotal before Renzo Navarro brought them to a 73-72 deficit with a huge triple.
Ichie Altamirano then fouled Guadaña, who then split his freebies for the tie as Calahat missed a potential game-winner as the game went into OT.
The Stags backcourt tandem of Tristan Felebrico and Raymart Escobido poured nine points each at the turn while Barba paced the Pirates with 10.
A Bravo basket gave Lyceum a slim 55-54 lead late in the third before San Sebastian took back that immediately with a 64-61 cushion to end the frame. That set up a low-scoring fourth quarter where the Pirates outscored the Stags, 12-9.
Escobido and Alex Desoyo led San Sebastian with 12 points each.
