Migs Oczon makes it rain vs San Beda, steers Benilde to 7th win | NCAA Philippines

Migs Oczon caught fire late to steer De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde to a 78-69 statement victory over San Beda University in NCAA Season 98 on Sunday.

Oczon scored 11 of his 19 points in the crucial fourth quarter to lead the Blazers to the win.

He shot a perfect 4-for-4 from the field in the final period, including three triples. He finished the game shooting 7-for-13 (53.8-percent) from the field and 5-for-9 (55.6-percent) from three-point range.

Will Gozum posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Miggy Corteza and Robi Nayve chipped in with 11 and 10 markers, respectively.

With the win, Benilde will still sit atop the standings with a 7-1 card while San Beda dropped to 5-3.

 

 

The star transferee fired back-to-back triples to make it a 69-63 cushion for the Blazers before another trey from him sent them to a 74-66 lead with 51.9 seconds left.

Oczon then sank another bucket to seal the deal for the Taft crew, 76-67.

Prior to that explosion, Oczon already tallied eight points in the first half.

Benilde was able to lead by as much as 11 early in the second period, 26-15, before Gab Cometa ignited for a personal 6-0 run to pull San Beda to within two, 26-24.

A buzzer-beater triple from Oczon sent the Blazers to a 37-31 halftime lead as it became a tight affair for most of the secnd half.

James Kwekuteye came alive in the third, scoring eight straight points to tie the game at 43 before the Blazers took a 51-49 lead before the payoff period.

Kwekuteye exploded for 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the loss.
