Lyceum of the Philippines University head coach Gilbert Malabanan hailed his veteran playmaker and team captain Enzo Navarro for putting aside his scoring to lead the team in assists in NCAA Season 98.
The graduating Navarro hasn't been much of a scoring threat this season as he has focused instead on setting up his teammates. The Pirates, though, have benefited form this as they now sit in second place with a 7-2 win-loss card.
"Renzo is my go-to. When I say go-to guy, hindi niya kailangan mag-score but he can lead the team lalo na 'pag nasa loob siya because he's my number one veteran sa team eh and he's my leader," Malabanan said following their tight 82-80 escape of Arellano University.
"I'm very proud of him na he's sacrificing his scoring, but look at his assists, that's the good thing."
The 25-year-old Navarro is currently leading the entire league in assists, averaging 5.78 per game while norming 6.67 points and 3.0 rebounds. Against the Chiefs on Tuesday, Navarro only scored a single point but he dished out eight assists to show the way for the Pirates.
More than this, Malabanan also lauded the leadership Navarro has been showing this season.
"Para na ring coach 'yan, so we're gonna talk it out kung ano 'yung dapat namin adjustments. May nakikita siyang hindi ko nakikita and maganda 'yung communications naming dalawa."
