Former LPU coach Topex Robinson says Pirates now a barometer for other teams: 'Teams will play you harder'

Topex Robinson may not be part of the current Lyceum of the Philippines University squad, but the veteran mentor will always be rooting for his former team, whom he says has emerged as one of the league's barometers.

Lyceum is currently taking NCAA Season 98 by storm, sweeping last season's Final Four cast to sit in second place in the team standings with an impressive 7-2 card as young guns Ato Barba, Mclaude Guadaña, Gyle Montaño and veteran Enoch Valdez lead the way.

Robinson, who coached Lyceum from 2014 to 2020, believes that with Lyceum's surprise surge, the Pirates have become one of the league's standards.

"Nobody expected them to end up the first round number two but sabi ko nga kay Coach Gilbert, a lot of things could happen in the second round and obviously you're gonna be one of the barometers of this season," said Robinson after sitting on the panel during Lyceum's 82-80 win over Arellano University on Tuesday.

"So expect that the teams will play you harder."

Robinson said the work is far from done for the Pirates, stressing they have to go harder come the second round to go the distance in the ongoing season.

"You earned the respect and how you're gonna hold on to that respect and earn it again is gonna be another challenge," Robinson said.

"Again, there's a lot of promise for them. This team is doing well."
