San Sebastian pulls away late as skidding EAC goes 0-9

San Sebastian College-Recoletos rode a strong second half to deal Emilio Aguinaldo College another defeat, 78-61, and snap its own skid in NCAA Season 98 on Friday.

Jessie Sumoda scored seven of his 10 points in the fourth quarter, which San Sebastian won, 26-18, to cruise to the victory.

Alex Desoyo led the Stags with a team-high 11 markers while Rhinwill Yambing also reached double-figures with 10.

Trailing 31-30 at the turn, the Stags unleashed their hot shooting in the fourth with Sumoda and Desoyo giving them a 61-49 lead.

James Una and Ichie Altamirano then fueled San Sebastian’s 9-0 rampage as they erected a huge 75-56 cushion with 1:22 left.

Their skipper, Altamirano, again buried a three-pointer to put the game away as the Stags arrested their slump.

San Sebastian improved to 3-5, ending a woeful four-game losing slump, while EAC went into a 0-9 hole.

San Sebastian led by 11 early, but EAC outscored the Stags in the second with Adam Doria and JP Maguliano catching fire as the Generals took a 31-30 halftime cushion.

But a strong third quarter, highlighted by San Sebastian’s unforgiving defense and fast-paced offense, saw the Stags lead again by nine, 52-43, with Sumoda and Rhinwill Yambing connecting from the field.

But San Sebastian held on en route to a hard-fought win.
