Mapua dedicates win over Lyceum to injured teammate Arvin Gamboa

The Mapua University Cardinals are dedicating their latest win to teammate Arvin Gamboa, who has yet to return from an injury he sustained last October 5 against De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.

Gamboa hurt his knee early in the fourth quarter against the Blazers before the Cardinals eventually absorbed a 73-64 loss.

He hasn't played since, even as Mapua improved its standing to 2-8 following a hard-fought victory over Lyceum of the Philippines University on Sunday.

"Sobrang saya, sobrang thankful. This game inaalay namin sa teammate namin, si Arvin, na hindi pa nakakabalik," said Mapua's Paolo Hernandez.

Mapua head coach Randy Alcantara said there's no timetable yet regarding Gamboa's return, as the star forward is still set to undergo another MRI test in the coming days.

"Nung time na 'yun, parang 'yung MRI namamaga pa. Ang advise ay ulitin kasi nung time na-MRI na una, medyo malabo ('yung result) kasi nga namamaga pa," the head coach said.

"Ngayon, nagte-therapy siya so ewan ko lang kung ngayon or bukas uulitin pero namamaga pa talaga. Sana nga wala namang grabe na nangyari."

Gamboa was Mapua's second leading scorer with averages of 9.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.13 blocks, and 1.38 assists.
