Fran Yu was quick to atone for a scoreless first half, igniting in the last two periods to steer Colegio de San Juan de Letran to a 69-50 win over San Sebastian College-Recoletos in the NCAA Season 98 on Sunday.
Yu scored all of his game-high 19 points in the second half while also notching five rebounds and two steals to lead the Knights. He accounted for 11 of Letran's 20 fourth quarter points, outscoring the entire San Sebastian team in the final period.
Brent Paraiso also contributed 13 for Letran while Louie Sangalang added eight points and 11 rebounds. Kurt Reyson also scored eight markers for the Knights, who won their sixth game in a row.
Letran improved to 9-3 for a solo second while San Sebastian slid to 3-6.
Yu, who shot 0-of-4 in the first and second quarters combined, got his shooting going with quick eight points in the third, which ended with the Knights enjoying a 49-40 lead.
But the veteran court general made it rain in the fourth, unleashing a personal 8-0 run as Letran’s lead ballooned to 17, 57-40.
Another dagger triple from Yu in the final three minutes made it a 62-48 cushion for the Knights to put the game away before it was even finished.
Letran outscored San Sebastian, 20-10, in the fourth period.
Despite getting outrebounded at the half, 20 to 29, the defending champions still carried a 34-28 cushion with balanced offense from veterans Paraiso, Reyson, and Sangalang.
