Cade Flores and Axel Doromal connived to arrest Arellano University’s three-game slide at the expense of Lyceum of the Philippines University, 77-63, in the NCAA Season 98 on Wednesday.
Flores posted 23 points, 12 rebounds, and seven steals while Doromal added 18 points, five rebounds, and five assists to lead the Chiefs to the win.
Jade Talampas added nine points, including seven in the fourth quarter for Arellano.
Arellano ended its slump to improve to 5-6 while Lyceum dropped to 8-4.
The Chiefs uncorked a shooting spree in the third with gunner Doromal and big man Flores powering a 22-4 rampage to open the frame for a 55-38 lead.
A technical free throw from skipper Kai Oliva brought Arellano to its biggest lead, 62-43, before they headed to the fourth holding a 64-48 cushion after scoring 31 points in the period.
But Lyceum fought back in the payoff period, trimming its deficit to just 10, 68-58, with the returning JM Bravo and Renz Villegas providing the spark.
But back-to-back crucial baskets from Doromal gave Arellano a 75-61 advantage in the final 2:28 as the Chiefs completed the stunner.
Flores was already near the double-digit mark at the half, pouring in nine points and eight rebounds of his overall output as Arellano trailed by only one point, 34-33.
Enoch Valdez and Bravo, meanwhile, were the focal points of attacks for Lyceum in the first 20 minutes of action.
But Arellano unleashed a fiery third quarter to pull away.
Bravo led LPU with 12 points and 12 rebounds while Renz Villegas also finished 12 markers.
