San Beda University squandered a double-digit lead, but still found a way to pull off a hard-fought 70-61 win against a gallant Jose Rizal University on Saturday.
And Red Lions head coach Yuri Escueta gave props to the Heavy Bombers, who rallied late in the game despite having nothing to lose as they are already out of contention.
"I have to give it to the JRU Heavy Bombers, talagang when you thought that they were out and didn't have that last push and energy in them, they still played hard," Escueta said.
"Good thing na namatch-up-an namin nung fourth quarter and we were able to play defense and get rebounds. Hindi ka pwedeng tutunga-tunganga sa kanila kasi magmumukha kang tamad."
After taking care of JRU, San Beda will have one assignment left in the elimination round against its first round tormentor in De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.
Escueta said the victory against the eliminated Bombers will help the prepare for the Blazers as well as the post-season.
"This is of course big for us going into the post-season and these are tough games that we need coming into the playoffs, especially sa next game natin with Benilde," he added.
"But welcome sa'kin to, especially with the young players that I have na nakaka-experience sila ng ganito."
