Will Gozum, a frontrunner for the NCAA Season 98 Most Valuable Player award, praised his De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde team's second stringers in their crucial win against San Beda University.
While Gozum posted 15 points, 10 rebounds, one steal, and one block in Benilde's 82-73 win, guys like Mark Sangco, Jimboy Pasturan, Miggy Corteza, and Miguel Oczon significantly contributed to the team's win.
"First half kasi foul trouble ako, di ako maka-go agad," said Gozum who had two fouls in the first two quarters. "Buti na lang nandoon sina Sangco, sina Corteza, sinalo nila ako, sina Oczon. 'Yung second group namin, para sa kanila 'yung win na ito. Sila yung tumrabaho."
Sangco tallied 19 points, Corteza had 15 points, Pasturan made 13, and Oczon had 9 points.
With the twice-to-beat in their hands, Gozum said they will take advantage of the bonus they got.
"Papahalagahan namin ito. Di namin ite-take easy 'yung kung sino man 'yung makakalaban namin sa playoffs. Trabaho ulit kami bukas. Back to work agad."
The next goal? A ticket to the Finals.
"Next goal naman, manalo kami para mag-Finals naman. Ilang years na since huling nag-Finals. Hopefully maka-finals kami. Siguro pag nag-champion kami, di lang kami 'yung happy, buong community."
