Jose Rizal University head coach Louie Gonzalez knows his former player John Amores was in the wrong and has imparted that to the young man.
But despite that, Gonzalez shared that he remains in constant communication with the 6-foot-2 forward, whose actions in JRU's game against De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde last November 8 forced the school to remove him from the program while the league slapped him with an indefinite suspension.
And as Amores goes through a difficult period due to those actions, the coach communicated that he will continue to wish the best for him.
"John is like my son. I talk to him almost everyday, hindi ko pababayaan 'yung anak kong 'yun. He's like a son to me, parang apo ko na rin 'yung anak no'n and I'm happy na he's doing fine," Gonzalez said.
"And hopefully he'll be back, hindi ko naman sinasabi na (tama)... mali 'yung nangyari. It's an unfortunate... I think the right word is it's really unfortunate, pero si John, mabait na tao. Mabait na bata."
Amores has yet to release any official statement regarding his next plans as he is still set to face the consequences of his actions, including the case filed against him by the Blazers' Taine Davis and Jimboy Pasturan.
Gonzalez, though, promised to back Amores and hopes he can learn and improve, not necessarily as a player, but as a person.
"The focus right now is paramdam ko lang kay John na nandito kami na nakasuporta sa kanya pero again, we spoke to him na may mali talaga. Merong mali and hindi naman lahat ng tao perpekto pero alam namin na matututo siya dito sa sitwasyon," he said.
"Hindi lang kasi player 'yung pinag-uusapan. Kasi naman with John eh, hindi na muna 'yung paglalaro niya, bilang tao muna. Bilang tao, bilang ama, bilang partner."
