NCAA MVP Will Gozum hoping to eclipse Benilde legend Sunday Salvacion's achievement

Will Gozum has a chance to eclipse what De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde legend Sunday Salvacion did two decades ago for the Taft crew.

Back in NCAA Season 78, Salvacion was named the Season MVP and led the Blazers to the Finals, but he was unable win the title after they fell to San Sebastian College-Recoletos in the title series to finish as runners-up.

Gozum, meanwhile, already hoisted the MVP trophy last Sunday but he has a chance to take it a step further by also delivering a championship in the same season.

"For me, si Kuya Sunday iba talaga 'yung nagawa niya eh so hopefully magawa ko rin and mahigitan ko rin si Kuya Sunday," said Gozum last weekend.

The NCAA Season 98 MVP steered the Blazers to a hard-fought 76-71 Game Two win to force a winner-take-all Game Three this coming December 18 at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

In that game, Gozum poured in MVP-like numbers with 21 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks as they moved on the cusp of the school's first title since 2000.

The victory has also put the 6-foot-6 Gozum a step closer to achieving what Salvacion attempted in 2002, something the Blazers hope to complete especially with Salvacion and other former Blazers throwing their support to the current crop of Benilde cagers.

"Nakausap namin sila nung isang araw, minotivate nila kami para maging ganito 'yung laro namin. Thankful ako sa pag-support nila sa amin," Gozum shared.
