Ernest Geronimo and Mark De Leon led San Sebastian College-Recoletos' late-game rally as they escaped Lyceum of the Philippines University, 92-87, in the NCAA Season 98 juniors basketball tournament on Monday at the EAC Gym.
San Sebastian erased a double digit deficit and completed a comeback victory to improve to 4-2 while Lyceum dropped to an even 3-3 card.
Trailing until the 33.3 mark of the fourth quarter, the Staglets were able to regain the lead after Geronimo attacked the rim for an 88-87 cushion before Stephen Jardinico denied Nat Fuentes on a crucial attempt.
Mark Danag then sank both of his free throws, sending San Sebastian to a 90-87 spread with 8.5 ticks left as Fuentes committed a crucial turnover down the stretch that led to an easy fastbreak for Danag.
Geronimo dropped 20 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals while De Leon churned out 20 markers as well on top of 14 boards, and two dimes. Rion Porcadas and Danag each poured in 15 and 12 points in the win.
The loss saw Matthew Rubico's near triple-double go down the drain as the guard listed 25 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, two blocks, and one steal in the losing effort.
Both teams return to action on Wednesday with San Sebastian facing University of Perpetual Help System DALTA while Lyceum takes on league leader Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
