San Beda coach says Red Cubs played for injured Kirk Cañete as team completes Final 4 picture

The injured Kirk Cañete has been a constant motivation for San Beda Rizal High School as the Red Cubs faced San Sebastian College-Recoletos in the playoff game on Thursday in the NCAA Season 98 juniors basketball tournament.

Cañete had a hard fall as he went up against San Sebastian's Stephen Jardinico before the first half ended. He was eventually stretchered out of the court.

According to a courtside report, Cañete did not sustain injuries on his face but blood was seen flowing out of his ears.

San Beda head coach Miko Roldan said Cañete has been brought to the hospital for further examination.

"He's been on our mind since nangyari 'yun. Later we're gonna visit him," he said.

Despite the unfortunate incident, Roldan said the team used Cañete's injury as a motivation for the win.

"We used that as our motivation. We played for Kirk. Naglalaro kami para kay Kirk after ng incident."

Cañete's teammate Christopher Hubilla echoed Roldan.

"Sobrang nakaapekto talaga si Kirk kasi siya main point guard namin. Malaking bagay siya sa team," he said.

San Beda will face the Malayan High School next in Playoff 2 and the loser of that match will be the fourth seed in the Final Four.
