San Beda University high school player Kirk Cañete said he is on the road to recovery after sustaining an injury during their match against the San Sebastian College-Recoletos on Thursday in the NCAA Season 98 juniors basketball playoff.
In a social media post on Saturday, Cañete said the incident that happened to him was a bad break that could have happened to any other athlete.
"As an athlete we are prone to injuries and accidents inside the court," Cañete wrote.
"Last Thursday was a misfortune that every player wouldn't want to happen. But I believe that everything that happen[s] in our lives (including the mishaps) is according to God's plan. I may never understand it now but I know I will later on," he added.
Cañete thanked the San Beda community, his teammates, and their loved ones for the support he has received especially after the unfortunate incident.
"I am now on my way to recovery. Please continue praying for my speedy recovery and I will dribble those balls inside the court again."
"Above all, thank you my big God for giving me another chance and another life."
Cañete had a hard landing as he went up against San Sebastian's Stephen Jardinico before the first half ended. San Beda eventually won the said match and will face Mapua University in the next round of the playoff.
