James Una had a change of heart as he decided to stay put at San Sebastian College-Recoletos after initially parting ways with the Stags to transfer to University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP.
The 21-year-old Una was seen playing for the Stags in the ongoing Pinoyliga Collegiate Cup Season 2 just less than three months after he and another NCAA star Rhayyan Amsali were announced to be the newest members of the Growling Tigers.
But Una said his heart belongs in San Sebastian.
"Wala kasi 'yung puso ko sa UST maglaro kaya bumalik ako sa San Sebastian. Sa Baste ako galing kaya gusto ko sa Baste rin ako magtatapos. Bumalik ako kasi 'yung puso ko nasa Baste," he said in an interview on the Pinoyliga broadcast on Tuesday.
("My heart wasn't in it to play for UST so I returned to San Sebastian. I came from Baste, so I want to finish in Baste. I came back because my heart belongs to Baste.")
San Sebastian head coach John Kallos also confirmed the development to GMA Integrated News.
With Una staying, San Sebastian will still have a solid roster led by veteran Romel Calahat, Rhinwill Yambing, Raymart Escobido, Jacob Shanoda, and Jessie Sumoda as the Stags bid goodbye to Ichie Altamirano and Ammar Cosari.
San Sebastian finished fifth in NCAA Season 98, collecting eight wins and 10 losses as they missed the Final Four for two consecutive seasons.
