Migs Oczon displayed his deadly form late to steer De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde past Colegio de San Juan de Letran in their finals rematch, 68-55, in NCAA Season 99 on Sunday.
Oczon finished with a team-high 15 points, all scored in the second half, to go with six rebounds, six assists, and one block as the Blazers vented ire on the Knights.
The Blazers bounced back from a heartbreaking loss to EAC the other day to improve to 5-4. Letran, on the other hand, slipped to a 1-8 slate to end the first round.
After being held to just four points in the first half, Oczon found his usual form back after unleashing eight points in the third as their 35-26 lead widened to 60-40 before the fourth.
The Knights were able to trim that to 14 after back-to-back treys from Deo Cuajao, but they weren’t able to capitalize on the Blazers’ struggle from the field as Prince Carlos buried a triple of his own, 63-49, in the final four minutes.
Oczon again nailed a three-pointer for a 66-49 cushion before Will Gozum, who was scoreless at the half, then completed a jumper over Pao Javillonar, 68-49.
Letran also hit a snag when Andrey Guarino was helped off the court after hurting his ankle with 21.6 seconds left.
Miggy Corteza flirted with a double-double of 12 points and nine rebounds alongside two assists while Robi Nayve and Prince Carlos chipped in 12 and eight markers apiece.
Cuajao led Letran with 11 points while Kint Ariar and Kevin Santos chimed in with nine each.
