Clutch Ry Dela Rosa takes over anew as JRU repulses Arellano

Ry Dela Rosa picked up where he left off, knocking down crucial baskets down the stretch to steer Jose Rizal University to a 79-74 escape of Arellano University in the NCAA Season 99 on Sunday.

Dela Rosa, who dropped 19 points to lift JRU past San Sebastian, finished with 12 points while Jonathan Medina and Patrick Ramos paced the Heavy Bombers with 16 and 15 markers apiece.

JRU copped back-to-back wins to improve to 8-4 while Arellano went down to 2-9.

Arellano, however, proved its huge upset win against San Beda University the other day was no fluke, putting the clamps on the Heavy Bombers for most of the game en route to a tight affair to end the third at 62-all.

The Chiefs then managed to break that deadlock courtesy of a 7-2 run to open the fourth with young big man Lorenz Capulong leading the rally.

Jade Talampas, who exploded for four triples against the Red Lions, buried one from downtown to make it a 74-70 cushion before JRU team captain Ry Dela Rosa answered with back-to-back triples of his own to give the Heavy Bombers the lead back at 76-74 with 1:21 left.

Medina, who did the lifting for JRU in the first half alongside Ramos, put the seal on the deal after spinning on his layup in the final seconds.

Joshua Guiab poured in a double-double of 11 points and 11 markers to make up for the absence of Marwin Dionisio.

Talampas once again starred for Arellano, tallying 19 points together with four rebounds, one assist, and one steal.

JRU takes a five-day break before returning on Saturday against Perpetual while Arellano takes on Benilde on the same day.
