Chris Hubilla, Lawrence Mangubat leave Mapua to transfer to JRU

In a wild turn of events, the promising duo of Chris Hubilla and Lawrence Mangubat announced their departure from Mapua University just months after helping the Cardinals rule the NCAA Season 100 men's basketball.

Both players confirmed to GMA News Online their decision as they look to make a jump to Jose Rizal University after spending their rookie year with Mapua.

Hubilla and Mangubat were key cogs to Cardinals' supremacy in the centennial edition, helping coach Randy Alcantara and veterans Clint Escamis and Cyrus Cuenco end the school's 33-year title drought by sweeping De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde in the finals.

Hubilla, a product of San Beda University high school program, was named the Rookie of the Year.

Their move to JRU will reunite them with newly-minted Heavy Bombers head coach Nani Epondulan, who was among Alcantara's lead assistants in Mapua before he decided to come home to his alma mater late last month.

Sought for comments on why they decided to leave, both Hubilla and Mangubat kept mum.

Epondulan, meanwhile, shared that he has yet to get full confirmation regarding the two players' transfer to JRU.
