La Salle Green Hills banked on the offensive prowess of Guillian Quines and Gian Gomez to gut out a 78-65 victory over San Beda University in the NCAA Season 100 juniors basketball tournament on Monday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.
The Greenies, who were coming off an 86-60 overtime loss to Colegio de San Juan de Letran, returned to their winning ways and improved to 3-2 while the Red Cubs fell to a similar 3-2 card.
Quines led the charge with an all-around outing of 22 points, five rebounds, four assists, and six steals while Gomez provided the lift with 16 markers, five boards, and three steals as they sent San Beda reeling to back-to-back losses.
Down two at the break, LSGH unleashed a massive third quarter where Arle Podador shot two three-pointers to lead their 25-point third quarter showing as they built a 61-51 cushion.
The Greenies even extended that lead to 18 when Gomez buried a jumper that sent them to a 78-60 advantage late in the fourth.
MJ Vailoces once again carried the fight for San Beda with his 15-point showing together with eight rebounds, two steals, and one assist while Francis Doliente chipped in 10 markers, nine boards, and two blocks.
In other game, San Sebastian College-Recoletos scored its second straight win following three straight losses to open the season, pulling off a 68-58 win against Jose Rizal University.
Carlo Ynot, the younger bother of College of Saint Benilde star Tony Ynot, starred for the Staglets with 19 points laced with six assists and three rebounds off the bench while Sanlea Peñaverde chipped in 16 markers, 10 boards, and one steal.
The win allowed San Sebastian to improve to 2-3 while the Light Bombers dropped to a 2-3 record.
