Jhuniel Dela Rama and Alwin Alforque registered double-doubles to tow Colegio de San Juan de Letran past San Beda University, 71-64, on Wednesday in the NCAA Season 100 juniors basketball tournament at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
Dela Rama had 20 points and 10 rebounds, on top of two assists and two steals, while Alforque had 12 points, 10 boards, two assists, and two blocks as the Squires improved to 4-2.
San Beda had a 57-50 by the end of the third quarter before the Intramuros-based squad limited the Red Cubs to just seven points in the fourth period. Only Laurence Batobangkal, MJ Vailoces, and Andrei Uggadan scored for the Taytay-based squad in the last frame.
"Ang ganda ng depensa ng mga bata, grabe," head coach Willie Miller said.
"All I'm trying to control is 'yung iniisip nilang rivalry kasi pag iniisip mo yun, medyo nago-overhype yung bata -- nanggiggil, puro reactions."
Uggadan had 20 points, 11 boards, three assists, and two steals, while Francis Dollente had 17 points. Vailoces had 10 rebounds, eight rebounds, an assist, and a steal as San Beda slipped to 3-3.
Meanwhile, Mapua University kept Lyceum of the Philippines University winless, 76-58.
Ruzzel del Poso had 15 points, while Sean Salvador added 12 points as the Red Robins improved to 4-2.
Lucas Peña and Joss Poli, meanwhile, had 15 points apiece as the Junior Pirates went down to 0-6.
