Lleses twins take spotlight in Benilde's win vs. JRU

Shahanna and Shekaina Lleses proved just how deep De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde is, fueling a 25-16, 28-26, 19-25, 25-13 win against upset-hungry Jose Rizal University in the NCAA Season 100 women's volleyball tournament on Tuesday.

The twin sisters were among the bright spots in their four-set romp with Shahanna, who usually plays as libero, dropping 11 points and 16 digs and Shekaina chipping in 10 markers as the three-time defending champions improved to 8-2.

The Lady Bombers slid to 1-9 despite giving the Lady Blazers a scare.

"Iba rin po kasi sa college so kahit sa training tina-try naming makasabay sa mga ate namin as much as possible. Kahit rookies kami gusto naming makasabay and makatulong sa team," Shekaina said.

"Marami na rin po kasing graduating sa amin kaya dapat tumulong kami."

[It's still different in college so even in training, we try to keep up with our big sisters as much as possible. Even if we're rookies, we want to keep up and help the team... We have a lot of graduating players sa we need to help out.]

Benilde surprisingly dropped the third set against a courageous JRU side with Shanine Pretta and Nicole Deala carrying the Lady Bombers to a 25-19 victory to drag the Lady Blazers to a fourth.

But Benilde learned its lessons, opening the fourth with a 10-4 start before unleashing a 7-0 run that turned a slim 11-8 lead to a massive 18-8 cushion behind Cristy Ondangan's powerful kills at the middle.

A Maliey Amante attack gave some signs of life for JRU, 13-20, but the reigning queens closed out the game with a 5-0 rampage led by two aces from team captain Mycah Go.

Aside from the Lleses sisters, also shining for Benilde was opposite hitter Rhea Densing, who posted a team-high 15 points while Ondangan registered 11 markers.
