Colegio de San Juan de Letran stopped the onslaught from Andrei Ugaddan, escaping with a 63-61 victory to protect its unbeaten slate in the NCAA Season 101 juniors basketball on Sunday.
Nathan Egea led the way with 15 points laced with six rebounds, two assists, and one steal as they improved to 2-0 in Group B while the Red Cubs sank to a 0-2 start.
The loss spoiled a huge double-double outing from Ugaddan, who posted 20 points and 10 rebounds together with four steals and two dimes.
In the last 23 seconds, Ugaddan came up with a rebound and converted it into a layup that cut San Beda's deficit to two, 58-60, but a foul by Joaquin Wagan sent Mico Pascual to the line for two free throws as Letran secured a four-point advantage.
Ugaddan then soared for a huge three-pointer with 15 seconds left, but a split from Pascual sealed the two-point escape by the former two-time champion Squires.
Letran's offense was well-spread with Alvin Villanueva chipping nine points while Earl Dahino and Justin Cargo posted six markers apiece.
