San Beda University notched its first win in the NCAA Season 101 juniors basketball tournament, defeating Jose Rizal University, 64–52, on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Red Cubs built their biggest lead by halftime, 34–22, before the Light Bombers outscored them in the third quarter, 22–14.

In the final frame, JRU came within three, 52–49, after a Lexi Callueng triple. However, a jumper from Andrei Ugaddan followed by a three-pointer from Bill Gravador extended San Beda’s lead to eight with 2:20 remaining. Melvin Tailan momentarily halted the run with a triple, but San Beda closed the game with a 7–0 run to seal the win.

Jack Jomalesa had a breakout performance, finishing with 13 points built on three triples, along with four rebounds. Juris San Juan added 11 points, while Gravador and Martin Mejia chipped in 10 points each as San Beda improved to 1–2.
