Kelly Coronel and Clint Bonus were clutch as Emilio Aguinaldo College eked out a 72-69 win against San Beda University in the NCAA Season 101 juniors basketball tournament on Tuesday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.
Coronel sank a jumper that turned a slim one-point lead to a 68-65 advantage for the Brigadiers in the final 1:43 of the fourth period, but the Red Cubs trimmed it to one after Martin Mejia sank a pair of free throws.
Coronel issued a pass that led to a Bonus three-pointer, bringing EAC to a much-needed 71-67 cushion with 58 seconds left.
EAC escaped with the win despite Andrei Ugaddan cutting the gap to one through a pair of freebies as John Dela Cruz sealed it for the Brigadiers with a split.
Coronel led the way with 15 points, six rebounds, two blocks, one assist, and one steal while Bonus tallied 10 markers, six boards, four dimes, four steals, and one block as they improved to 1-3 in Group B behind a three-game win streak.
Adiam Larosa paced San Beda with 16 points, four rebounds, three steals, and one assist as the Red Cubs fell to a 1-3 card.
