Estopacio, Usop lead surging JRU in escape vs. San Sebastian

MJ Estopacio and Datu Usop took turns in the endgame as Jose Rizal University escaped San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 77-73, in the NCAA Season 101 juniors basketball on Wednesday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.

Estopacio tied it all up at 73-all after completing a layup off an Usop pass in the final 2:21 of the fourth quarter. Usop, who was a key cog in their previous 66-64 win over LSGH, then came up with two clutch free throws before another split from him made it a 76-73 cushion for the Light Bombers.

Usop sealed it with another freebie following a foul from JC Ynot as JRU raced to its second straight win to improve to 2-3 in Group B while the Staglets, who were coming off a stunner over Mapua, fell to 1-4.

Estopacio led the way with a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds together with two assists, two steals, and three blocks while Usop finished with 12 markers, five dimes, two boards, and two steals.

CJ Sapatram helped the cause with 11 points and four rebounds.

For San Sebastian, Ynot shone with 22 points alongside two rebounds, three assists, and four steals while Mark Esperanza churned out 19 markers, five boardsm five assists, and six steals.
