Datu Usop and Prince Mallorca joined forces late in Jose Rizal University's 74-70 conquest of Lyceum of the Philippines University as the Light Bombers returned to the win column of NCAA Season 101 juniors basketball on Tuesday.
Usop starred with 18 points on top of six assists, two rebounds, and five steals for yet another all-around outing while Mallorca churned out 13 markers, six boards, one dime, and one block to fuel their fourth-quarter pullaway.
With the win, JRU improved to 3-4 in Group B while dealing the Junior Pirates their third straight loss to go 2-4 in Group A.
Down 67-63 late in the fourth, Usop drained a three-pointer before Mallorca knocked down a pair of free throws to give JRU a slim 68-67 cushion in the final 2:10.
Lamarcus Pelayo, though, answered with a three-pointer of his own to provide the spark for the Junior Pirates and retake a 70-68 advantage.
But Usop responded with a huge three-pointer before Mallorca finished it off by unloading three straight points.
Despite the loss, Pelayo displayed his offensive prowess by tallying a game-high 26 points, eight rebounds, and one assist while Ken Bo chipped in 12 markers, six dimes, three steals, and two boards.
