Sean Franco registered another double-double to power Arellano University past Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 83-80, on Sunday in the NCAA Season 101 juniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Centre in San Juan.
Franco tallied 20 points and 17 rebounds, along with five assists, four steals, and a block, to lead the Braves to their second consecutive win.
The third quarter ended in a 63-all deadlock before the Braves unleashed a 10-0 run to pull away. Isiah Chua finally stopped the bleeding for the Squires, followed by free throws from Alvin Villanueva.
After Franco split his charities off a Nathan Egea foul, Ray Ladica buried a triple to restore a 10-point cushion for Arellano.
Letran then mounted a 9-4 run to inch closer, 81-76, with less than two minutes left.
The Squires continued their late rally with baskets from Villanueva and Earl Dahino, but the Braves held off the Intramuros-based crew to secure the victory.
Aside from Franco, Chris Dy and Laurence Pillas also scored in double figures with 14 and 13 points, respectively, as the Braves improved to 5-3.
Villanueva led Letran with 15 points, nine rebounds, and two assists, while Justin Cargo added 13 points, seven assists, five rebounds, and a steal as the Squires slipped to 4-4.
