The current top two teams of NCAA Season 101 men’s basketball, the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA and San Beda University, will clash in their only face-off of the elimination round.
The two teams are set to meet later at 2:30 p.m. at the Filoil Centre.
The Altas lead Group A with a 7-1 record, while San Beda sits atop Group B with a 6-1 win-loss card.
Their respective coaches, cousins Olsen Racela and Yuri Escueta, however, are treating this game like any other.
“Hindi namin iniisip ‘yung battle of top teams. Every game is really different from the other, so tingnan natin,” Racela said.
“Parang lahat ng games pinagdaraanan namin to get our ultimate goal, which is to reach the Final Four, so tingnan natin.”
Escueta echoed the same sentiment.
“Wala naman, but of course you still want to keep that top one or top two spot in our bracket. ‘Yun ang importante kahit sinong kalaban namin,” the San Beda coach said, adding that Perpetual is a very well-coached team.
For Mark Gojo Cruz, however, the goal is clear: he wants to finally notch a win against San Beda and take on one of the league’s rising stars, Janti Miller.
“0-2 din ako doon (San Beda). May motivation pero na-excite ako, ang galing ni Miller eh,” Gojo Cruz said.
“Kailangan namin siyang paghandaan, dami niyang moves, three points pa, shooter. Hopefully ma-stop ko siya.
