Jhello Lumague and Justin Cargo did it on both ends to power Colegio de San Juan de Letran to a 78-63 win against the struggling San Sebastian College-Recoletos in the NCAA Season 101 juniors basketball on Wednesday at the FilOil Centre.
The 6-foot-3 Lumague dazzled with 15 points, eight rebounds, and one block while guard Cargo poured 13 markers, six boards, two assists, two steals, and one block as the Squires broke out of a two-game slump.
The former champions, who were coming off a pair of losses to Mapua and Arellano, have improved to 5-4 in Group B while the Staglets sustained their fifth loss in a row to go 1-8 in Group A.
The Squires had to fend off a late rally from the Staglets with Browyn Tepan sinking a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to a single digit in the final 3:23 of the fourth period, 60-68.
But a Lumague basket and a Travis Pascual three-pointer off a Cargo assist sent Letran to a 74-61 cushion while Nathan Egea's two freebies sent the Squires to a 15-point advantage.
Mark Esperanza starred yet again for San Sebastian with 18 points laced with eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals while JC Ynot and Jhon Ramiso chipped in 14 and 10 markers apiece.
