NCAA: Perpetual Junior ALTAs survive San Beda Red Cubs in OT thriller

University of Perpetual Help System DALTA showed championship poise to survive San Beda University in overtime, 75-66, in the NCAA Season 101 juniors basketball on Wednesday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.

The Junior ALTAs thus captured back-to-back wins and improved to 6-3 in Group A while the Red Cubs remained at the bottom of Group B with a 2-6 card.

Jim Corpuz finished with 17 points, including a huge triple in the extra period, while also grabbing five rebounds, four assists, and three steals while Don Rosales chipped in 13 markers, three boards, and one dime.

Team captain Lance Nitura flirted with a double-double of 12 markers and nine rebounds as they completed their comeback from nine points down in the fourth.

Andrei Ugaddan sent San Beda to a 57-48 late in the fourth but the Juniors ALTAs rallied and pulled to within two off a Rosales triple, 58-60.

But a disastrous inbound play in the final play of regulation saw the Red Cubs turning the ball over as Nitura converted a tough layup to force an overtime.

Perpetual then never looked back in OT with Rosales hitting a triple for a 65-63 lead before Corpuz provided the finishing blow, hitting back-to-back baskets for a 69-66 cushion with 1:32 left.

Ugaddan led San Beda with a double-double outing of 16 points and 12 rebounds while Mark San Buenaventura chipped in 13 markers.
