Jose Rizal University's Justin Lozano remains optimistic about his return as he awaits medical clearance following a freak accident during their NCAA game against Mapua University on October 24.

Lozano suffered a hard fall that left him briefly unconscious on the court. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where he was admitted for observation.

“Pahinga lang daw po talaga, sabi ng doktor,” Lozano told GMA News Online on Wednesday on the sidelines of the JRU game against Arellano University.

The JRU player said he experienced a mild seizure after the fall.

According to the Mayo Clinic website, seizures can occur following a head injury and may range from mild to severe.

“Wala naman nakita sa CT scan, sa X-ray,” he added, noting that he had already regained consciousness while being stretchered off the court.

Lozano said he will have a follow-up checkup in one to two weeks, which will sideline him for a few more games.

“Depende pa po kung bibigyan ako ng clearance, pero positive naman [ako na babalik],” he said.

The second-year player also shared that Mapua’s Cyrus Nitura, the player he was defending during the incident, reached out to him through Heavy Bombers team captain Shawn Argente. Lozano believes the incident was purely accidental.

Despite the scare, Lozano expressed gratitude that the injury was not serious.

“Eye opener din na huwag pabayaan ang sarili, cherish lang every moment,” he said.
