San Beda University bounced back and notched back-to-back victories after dominating De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde-La Salle Green Hills, 76-59, in the NCAA Season 101 juniors basketball tournament on Friday at the Filoil Centre in San Juan.
It was a wire-to-wire win for the Red Cubs as they exacted revenge for their opening-day loss to the Greenies.
San Beda built a 20-point lead, 52-32, early in the third period before the Greenies responded with a 12-0 run to cut the deficit to eight. However, Bill Gravador’s triple at the end of the frame halted Benilde-LSGH’s momentum and restored a double-digit cushion.
The Greenies tried to mount another rally, inching closer at 64-55 with 5:06 remaining, but back-to-back triples from Adiam Larosa widened San Beda’s margin. Andrei Ugaddan and Dwayne Nonato then took charge in the endgame to secure the win.
Juris San Juan led San Beda with 17 points, while Ugaddan posted a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds, along with two assists and a block. Larosa added 14 points, and Gravador chipped in 11. Joaquin Wagan also stood out with 11 assists, six rebounds, four points, and two steals.
Calo-oy paced the Greenies with 20 points, while Jaime Hizon added 10, and Jaime Teodoro tallied nine points and 11 rebounds.
With the win, San Beda improved to 4-6 in the standings, while Benilde-LSGH fell to 6-4.
