San Beda University punched its quarterfinal ticket after surviving Jose Rizal University, 75-69, in the NCAA Season 101 juniors basketball play-in round on Tuesday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.
Andrei Ugaddan dropped his best game this season by firing four three-pointers to finish with 26 points laced with seven rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block as the Red Cubs arranged a quarterfinal bout against top seed Mapua University.
Adiam Larosa chipped in 12 points, three boards, and four dimes while Benedict Tauber and Dwayne Nonato chimed in with eight and seven markers each.
San Beda set the momentum early with a fiery 13-0 start, but the Light Bombers turned things around quickly and gained a slim 29-28 lead at halftime.
But San Beda unleashed a stronger fourth quarter with Larosa hitting one from downtown to send the Red Cubs to a 69-62 cushion with 2:04 left.
MJ Estocapio, though, completed a three-point play that pulled JRU within four, 65-69. Ugaddan then fouled Denzel Ong from the three-point line but the latter only sank one of the three free throws as San Beda continued to hold on the lead at 73-69.
Ugaddan sealed the victory with his own free throws, towing San Beda to the playoffs.
Datu Usop paced JRU in the loss, posting 27 points while Prince Mallorca and Ong both registered nine markers.
