Mapua University ousted San Beda University, 69-59, in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Season 101 juniors basketball tournament on Friday at the Filoil Centre in San Juan.
With the victory, the Red Robins advanced to the semifinals, where they will face Arellano University in a best-of-three series.
After San Beda made the first basket, Mapua took over and never looked back, leading by as many as 14, 52-38, at the 2:46 mark of the third period. From there, the Red Robins held off the Red Cubs until the final buzzer.
Jhillian Palis tallied 20 points to lead the Red Robins, along with seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals, while Ray Relojo and Froilan Reyes added 13 and 12 points, respectively. MJ Bernabe contributed 10 points, nine rebounds, and two steals, while Chris Parame grabbed 12 boards to go with eight points.
Andrei Ugaddan, meanwhile, posted 19 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and a steal as the Red Cubs wrapped up their campaign.
