No fast medical aid? CJ Servillon rushed to hospital in 10 minutes, say tourney organizers

Organizers of the FilOil Flying V basketball competition contended that they provided fast medical aid to Jose Rizal University high school varsity player CJ Servillon, who collapsed during a tournament game last Friday before passing away two days later.

In a press conference on Wednesday, they cited as proof documentation showing that it took just 10 minutes from the time medics got to the 17-year-old to the time he was brought to Cardinal Santos Medical Center. Servillon, who collapsed during a timeout zt the game, lapsed into a coma before passing away last Sunday due to lack of blood flow to the brain.

Teammates of Servillon earlier contended that there was delayed response from medics after he collapsed. The Servillon family had also said it was mulling whether to file charges against the organizers.

Organizers said they are still waiting for the medic's full report to see if there was any negligence on the part of the medical team.

"We will assess everything once we get the full report," said Virgil Villavicencio, a senior consultant of the FilOil Group.

He added that the incident could lead to a change in the medical personnel detailed at the tournament.

"We are thinking of putting a real doctor aside from the physical therapist during games," he said.

"It can be a blessing not just for us, but for other tournaments as well."

The FilOil group said it has already extended help to the Servillon family, with its officials attending the player's wake on Tuesday. -- JST, GMA News
