NCAA, Creamline to be feted in PSA Awards Night

NCAA and Creamline lead the entities to be given special citations in the upcoming Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Awards Night set on Monday at the Manila Hotel. 

The NCAA, known for producing athletes in various sporting events, celebrated its centennial anniversary last year with Lyceum of the Philippines University serving as host. 

Mapua University was the highlight of Season 100 after the Cardinals ended a 33-year title drought by beating De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde in a sweep fashion. 

The Cool Smashers, meanwhile, completed the country's first-ever professional volleyball grand slam by winning all three conferences in a single season. 

Creamline ruled the All-Filipino against sister team Choco Mucho before defeating Akari in the Reinforced Conference. To top it off, the wards of head coach Sherwin Meneses reigned over guest team Kurashiki in the season-ending Invitational Conference. 

Aside from Creamline, also getting the citations are the dragon boat national team, the Philippine Volcanoes, weightlifter Angeline Colonia, jiu jitsu bet Isabella Joseline Butler, and powerlifter Regie Ramirez.

Johann Chua and Albert James ‘AJ’ Manas (billiards), Carl Eldrew Yulo (gymnastics), Ruelle Canino (chess), Kheith Rhynne Cruz (table tennis), Marc Dylan Custodio (bowling), Mark John Lexer Galedo (cycling), Lovely Inan (weightlifting), Philippine baseball team, Centennial 7 (sailing), Jessa Mae Tabuan (powerlifting), and Ramon ‘Tats’ Suzara (volleyball) are also receiving recognitions. 

Carlos Yulo leads all awardees as the Athlete of the Year after bringina twin gold medal in the Paris Olympics while June Mar Fajardo, Kevin Quiambao, and Jia De Guzman are named Mr. Basketball (pro and amateur) and Ms. Volleyball.
