Reyann Cañete emphasized that there were no hard feelings on her end after she helped San Beda University secure its first win in NCAA Season 100 women’s volleyball at the expense of her former team, San Sebastian College-Recoletos.
For the veteran outside spiker, it was pure business.
"Wala naman po, sobrang saya lang po talaga ako kasi nakakuha kami ng panalo po," Cañete told GMA News Online after their 25-21, 23-25, 25-16, 25-13 win on Sunday.
"Masaya kasi napatunayan namin na hindi kami magiging winless lang this season."
[There were none, I'm just so happy that we were able to get a win... Happy because we proved that we would not end up winless this season.]
This was Cañete's first win against the Lady Stags after missing the entire Season 99 due to a finger injury she sustained right before the opening last year. That year was supposed to be her debut for the Lady Red Spikers after deciding to transfer from San Sebastian
In her first game against San Sebastian in the first round of NCAA Season 100 last March 22, the Lady Red Spikers lost in five sets even after getting a solid outing from Cañete, who poured in a 26-point outburst together with 10 digs and 12 receptions.
"Masaya kasi first ko 'to na panalo sa Baste kasi last season na-injure ako tapos nu’ng first round namin ngayon against sa kanila talo kami five sets, kinapos din kami," Cañete, the Season 97 Best Opposite Spiker, added.
[I'm happy because this is my first win against Baste because last season I got injured and then in the first round this season, we lost in five sets, we fell short.]
Cañete admitted the difference this time around was Angel Habacon, who was playing her second game back after returning from an injury that sidelined her for most of the first round.
The sophomore standout churned out 25 points and 16 digs while Cañete chipped in 10 markers as they improved to 1-10.
"Malaki rin po ‘yung impact na bumalik na si Angel kasi kulang po kami e. Wala po kaming panapos kasi puro rookies din po ‘yung kasama namin. Nagse-step up naman po lahat pero nakukulangan po kami talaga. Sana tuloy-tuloy na ‘to."
[The return of Angel had a big impact because we were short-handed. We didn't have a finisher because we have mostly rookies with us. Everyone is stepping up but it still wasn't enough then. Hopefully, this continues now.]
