Several NCAA student-athletes from different sports dished an assist to GMA Integrated News in the latter's in-depth and extensive coverage of the 2025 Philippine election on Monday.
Senior guard Gab Cometa from De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde led the morning crew of volunteers at the Digital Action Center alongside Matthew Langit of the Arellano University basketball team and Matt Obiena of Colegio de San Juan de Letran athletics squad.
Incoming Lyceum of the Philippines University outside spiker Roxie dela Cruz also took part in the event alongside fellow transferee Patrick Sleat, who is set to make his NCAA debut with University of Perpetual Help System DALTA basketball team in Season 101.
Veteran forward TJ Felebrico of San Sebastian College-Recoletos was also among the athlete volunteers.
As part of their activities, the student-athletes were tasked to scour through social media comments from people based on their experiences in voting.
The 21-year-old Dela Cruz admitted she was nervous at first, but shared it was an eye-opening experience to be able to take part in the coverage.
"At first, kinakabahan po ako kasi hindi ko alam kung ano ‘yung ie-expect pero ‘yung sinabi na po akin ‘yung gagawin, mas naging informed po ako sa mga concerns ng netizens about the election and ‘yung mga experiences nila," Dela Cruz, who played for two seasons for Mapua University before transferring to LPU, told GMA News Online.
"It was a great experience po to be informed about election ngayong 2025."
Sleat, meanwhile, said the whole experience allowed him to gain awareness about what's happening in the national election, which will dictate the next set of leaders in the country.
"Maganda ‘yung experience kasi somehow nakakatulong din sa amin na maging aware sa nangyayari ngayon eleksyon and mga situations sa iba’t ibang lugar," Sleat said.
