NCAA: San Beda outlasts Benilde in penalty shootout to seize 4th straight football title

San Beda University remained the gold standard in football after ruling the NCAA Season 101 men's football tournament on Monday at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The Red Booters edged out the Blazing Strikers in a dramatic penalty shootout, 3-2, following a scoreless draw after added extra time. They captured their fourth straight and a record-extending 27th overall crown in men's football.

San Beda had several scoring opportunities in the second half but failed to convert with Benilde unleashing a disciplined defense anchored by goalkeeper Jayvee Tagle, resulting in a 0-0 deadlock and added extra time.

San Beda's Kirk Emman See and Benilde's Charles Unabia took turns in the first two kicks in the penalty shootout, but it was Sam Salingay's kick that gave the defending champions a much-needed 1-0 lead.

On the fifth kick, midfielder Marvin Ladines converted to give San Beda a 2–0 advantage before substitute Jefry Agramon put Benilde on the board with a successful strike in the next attempt.

Byron Abela brought life back to Benilde after converting on the 8th kick to equalize the score at 2-2, but Alexis Lampines buried the game-winning kick to help San Beda complete its title defense.

Meanwhile, Emilio Aguinaldo College captured the bronze medal after defeating the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA.
