LPU swimmer Jasmine Gonzaga also swims for the environment

Growing up near the seashores of Zambales, it was not surprising that Lyceum of the Philippines University's (LPU) Jasmine Gonzaga loved swimming.

Apart from using her athletic ability in representing the Intramuros-based squad in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Gonzaga also uses her talent to help in saving the environment as a member of the "Scubasureros" group in Olongapo, which helps in cleaning up garbage in the sea.

"We will all benefit from it," Gonzaga told Chino Trinidad in Filipino in Friday's "24 Oras."

While the community quarantine is implemented, Gonzaga also spends her time on training, online learning, and maintaining her triathlon time record.

It may seem that she does many things, but this is just a way to put her mantra of "Bawal ang tamad" into action.

"My mindset is I can help my parents through this. When I swim, there are times that I get tired or lazy. There really are those days, but if I tend to be lazy, nothing will happen," said the LPU long distance swimmer.

And as the NCAA Season 96 draws near, the Cruise Liner and Hotel Operations student is optimistic that she and her teammates can still come back and swim for their school.

"We are not losing hope that our team will come back and meet again, and the NCAA will push through."
