Host Colegio de San Juan de Letran picked up the gold medal in the NCAA Season 96 juniors online chess tournament on Saturday.
Letran’s Christian Mark Daluz was named champion of the tournament after defeating Lyceum of the Philippines Universtity’s Leonel Escote in the finals of the tournament.
It was a long road for Daluz to reach this point. He began by winning his first match against San Beda’s Gal Brien Palasigue to advance to the Round of 16. He also defeated Arellano University’s Jasper Faeldonia in the quarterfinals and another Lyceum woodpusher in Paul Matthew Llanillo to earn his ticket to the championship round.
Escote, meanwhile, will settle for the silver medal while Jose Rizal University’s Melson John Gallo clinched the bronze medal in the battle for third match aired last Friday.
With the juniors tournament settled, the focus will now move onto the seniors division.
